TIRUPATI: Even as the state employees’ associations served a notice on the government, threatening an agitation for redressal of their grievances and implementation of the Pay Revision Commission (PRC) recommendations, Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy promised them that the government will implement the PRC recommendations within a week.
On the sidelines of his two-day tour of the flood-hit Chittoor and Nellore districts, the CM inspected Saraswati Nagar in Tirupati on Friday. While interacting with flood victims, a group of employees met CM Jagan and urged him to announce the report of the PRC and implement the same.
Responding to their pleas, the CM told the employees that the PRC report is ready and the decision would be announced within a week or 10 days.
The employees had threatened the agitation from December 10. The CM’s announcement on implementation of PRC recommendations assumes significance because the state government has called for a meeting of the joint staff council at Secretariat in Amaravati on Friday to discuss the demands put forward by the employees.
The AP Joint Action Committee and the AP JAC Amaravati leaders met chief secretary Sameer Sharma on Wednesday and served the notice, expressing displeasure over non-fulfillment of assurances given to the employees.
Leaders of the two JACs, Bandi Srinivasa Rao and Bopparaju Venkateswarlu, claimed the state government owed at least Rs 1,600 crore to employees in the form of provident fund, general life insurance, leave encashment and other benefits.
Major demands of the employees include abolition of contributory pension scheme, regularisation of contract employees and village/ward secretariats staff, release of pending DA, streamlining of employee health cards and salary hike for contractual and outsourced staff.
