EC silent on violation of model code in MLC polls, alleges Jayaprakash Reddy
HYDERABAD: Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee working president and Sangareddy MLA T.Jayaprakash ‘Jagga’ Reddy on Friday accused the State Election Commission officials of being mute spectators of the violation of the model code of conduct during the MLC elections in the state.
Showing the evidence of an audio clip and newspaper clippings, he accused ministers T. Harish Rao and Koppula Eshwar of violating the code of conduct in undivided Medak and Karimnagar districts.
Addressing a press conference here at an Assembly media hall on Friday, Jagga Reddy said that TRS leaders are afraid of a defeat in the MLC elections and lodged a complaint against him.
Stating that minister Harish Rao, TRS MPs and MLAs sent the local body elected representatives — the voters in the MLC elections — to the north and south India tours to gain their votes in the MLC elections, he said. “Why aren't Election Commission officials taking action against the ministers and MLAs?” he questioned.
Stating that Harish Rao had never respected the local body elected representatives for the last two years, Jagga Reddy said local body elected representatives should vote in favour of Nirmala for the sake of self-respect. “After the Congress fielded Sangareddy DCC president T. Nirmala Jagga Reddy as an MLC candidate, the minister is reaching out to the voters.”
Speaking about election strategist Prashanth Kishor’s remarks on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, the TPCC working president said his party does not need the services of the election strategist.
He said without Congress, no other political party could fight against the BJP. In Telangana state, elections would be a fight between the TRS and the Congress, while the BJP would stand at third place.
