DMK exudes confidence of winning RK Nagar poll
Chennai: DMK leaders on Sunday dismissed suggestions that actor Vishal's entry into the RK Nagar by-election contest will split the ‘anti-AIADMK votes’ and exuded confidence that it would emerge victorious in the high-stakes December 21 poll.
Senior DMK leader Durai Murugan told reporters in Coimbatore that the chances of his party's victory were bright and welcomed MDMK's decision to extend support to DMK in the by-election. “Our chances of winning the RK Nagar byelections are quite bright and we are hopeful of romping home from the constituency. People are quite clear that this AIADMK Government should go”, Durai Murugan said.
In Chennai, DMK nominee in R K Nagar, N Marudhu Ganesh, said Vishal contesting the bypoll would not affect his chances of winning and asserted that
people were determined to “gift” the constituency to the Opposition party.
“Nothing will stop the DMK's victory. We will win hands down and people want the DMK now and they have reposed faith in our Working President (M K Stalin).
The DMK will emerge victorious and people have decided to send this AIADMK Government home”, Ganesh told reporters in Chennai.
Actor Vishal to file nomination
Actor Vishal Krishna, who has announced his intent to contest the by-elections to the RK Nagar assembly constituency, will file his nomination papers on Monday.
An official communication from the actor’s office said Vishal would begin his day on Monday by paying respects to late MG Ramachandran at his Ramavaram Gardens and the late J. Jayalalithaa at her burial site on the Marina Beach before proceeding to Tondiarpet to file his nomination papers. Vishal, currently the general secretary of Nadigar Sangam and chief of the Producers’ Council, had on Saturday announced that he would contest the December 21 by-elections in RK Nagar.
Meanwhile, AIADMK rebel TTV Dhinakaran dismissed suggestions that Vishal was propped up by him. “It is fact that Vishal is a good friend, but I am under no compulsion to filed anyone to split the votes. I am confident of my victory in RK Nagar”, Dhinakaran told reporters here.
