NIZAMABAD: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday said BRS supremo and Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao had started avoiding him after he strongly opposed the very idea of the “undemocratic anointment” of K.T. Rama Rao as Chief Minister, and raised questions on massive corruption that the Chief Minister’s parivar had been indulging in, besides denying the party entry into the National Democratic Alliance (NDA).
Speaking at a public meeting in Nizamabad, the Prime Minister made the startling claim that the BRS had pumped in its “ill-gotten money amassed by looting the people of Telangana” to secure the Congress’ win in Karnataka.
“It’s payback time for Congress in Telangana as part of the ‘parde ke peche khel (secret pact)’. As the BRS’ defeat is imminent, both the parties have reached an understanding for mutual transfer of votes and BRS is ready with hordes of cash to secure win at any cost,” he said.
The Prime Minister appealed to people to allow his party to serve them just for five years and see for themselves the change. “It’s my promise that we will expose every sin of BRS and bring their corrupt leaders to book,” he said.
Modi took the audience by surprise and sparked their enthusiasm, asking if they wanted to know a secret that he had not revealed till now. He also wanted the media to investigate what he would reveal.
Amidst cheering by the crowds, Modi reminded the people of the love and affection Chandrashekar Rao showered on him whenever he visited the state.
“Before the GHMC polls, he used to come to the airport with giant garlands but things went the other way and he turned angry when I declined his entry into the NDA on principle and turned down his request for support of 48 BJP corporators to win the GHMC mayorship,” Modi said.
Narrating another instance, the Prime Minister said, “Chandrashekar Rao sought my blessings to make K.T. Rama Rao the Chief Minister, but I reminded him that he was not a maharaja to announce his heir. I told him categorically that in democracy, it was the people of Telangana who would elect their leader. It shook him so badly that he stopped seeing me and is even running away from my shadow.”
The Prime Minister said that Chandrashekar Rao had turned “loktantra” into “loot-tantra” and “prajatantra” into “parivar-tantra”. While thousands of youths and their families sacrificed for Telangana, one family used their vote to enrich themselves and shed the dreams of those who sacrificed for separate statehood, he said.
Explaining the danger of family rule, Modi said when the system (state machinery) was pressed into service of a family, the machinery would be filled with its near and dear, thereby denying lakhs of competent youths their due recognition.
“You (youth) will not get the opportunity to enter the system,” he said.
