TN byelections: Four observers appointed

In Vikravandi Rs 2.98 lakh cash was seized and in Nanguneri Rs 1.34 lakh cash was seized, he said.

CHENNAI: Two general observers and two expenditure observers have been appointed for the October 21 by-polls from Vikravandi and Nanguneri Assembly constituencies, the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Mr. Satyabrata Sahoo said on Thursday.

For Vikravandi, the general observer is V.Veerabadrudu and Expenditure observer U. Chavan Swachhand. For Nanguneri, the general observer will be Mrs M.Vijaya Suneetha, and expenditure observer will be Nitin Chand Negi, he disclosed.

The staff deployed for these two constituencies number 1,917 for Vikravandi and 1,460 for Nanguneri. In both constituencies so far, 18 cases have been registered for violation of rules of wall writings and posters, he said.

So far, 29 lakh voters throughout Tamil Nadu have verified their names in the voters list, which is only five per cent of the total electorate.

Hence the last date for release of draft rolls will be delayed after October 15, he added.
