TIRUVARUR: The DMK president, M.K. Stalin has demanded a CBI inquiry into the alleged impersonation of candidates in the Neet exam in the state this year.
Mr. Stalin was here along with his sister Selvi to register a piece of land purchased at Kattur near here on Thursday, to establish a museum to commemorate his father and former Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi's life. The museum on Kalaignar's life and times is expected to be ready by August 7, 2020, the second death anniversary of the DMK patriarch.
Speaking to newsmen, he said more than 50 students were allegedly involved in the Neet impersonation scam, with the active connivance of the officials concerned. He termed the ongoing CB-CID probe 'eyewash'.
As alleged brokers from Tamil Nadu and outside were said to be involved in the scam, a CBI enquiry would serve the purpose, the DMK leader said. The DMK continued to oppose the Neet exam system, he made clear.
Stating that 25 per cent of doctors posts in government hospitals were lying vacant across the state, Stalin said that was one reason why the government was unable to control fevers like dengue.
Sophisticated imported equipment for Tiruvarur government medical college hospital should not be shifted to Pudukkottai, he further demanded.
Earlier Mr. Stalin and Ms.Selvi paid homage at their grandmother Anjugam Ammaiyar's memorial at Kattur.
