In an effort to strengthen its party programme, Mane Manege Congress Nadige, the Congress on Tuesday convened meetings of the Congress Legislature party, Assembly Observers as well as the District Congress Committees separately at the party office in Bengaluru on Friday.
Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, a senior leader observed that after the appointment of AICC general secretary, K.C. Venugopal as state incharge, legislators have woken up to the reality that they can no longer afford to rest. "About two weeks ago, when KPCC president Dr G. Parameshwar reviewed party programmes, many MLAs had asserted that they too should be involved in party activities. Mr Venugopal immediately responded to this demand and directed the CM to convene a party legislators meeting to discuss this," the source explained.
The source added that on Friday, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, KPCC president, Dr G. Parameshwar and AICC general secretary, K.C. Venugopal- will be participating in the meeting with MLAs.
"Mr Venugopal also seem to have learnt a lot from the Marxist approach in his home state Kerala, of reaching out to people. There is no compromise on this formula and the former wants to replicate it in a similar manner here," the source contended adding that Mr Venugopal's approach is appreciated a lot by party workers here.
The source explained that the MLA’s role will be that of an advisor in the whole electoral game and they will be made deliver speeches in each booth of their respective constituency while Assembly observers and DCC presidents will be co-ordinating party affairs along with the help of MLAs.
"Mr Venugopal was severely upset when he found out that in many polling booths, the party had no representation at all. This had irked him anf he had pulled up MLAs for this lapse about three months ago. Wherever, MLAs had tried to sabotage formation of the booth committees, he had entrusted party district presidents the task of forming these committees. Now that the booth committees are more or less formed across the state, he wants to give a pep talk to the MLAs," the source explained.
