Interview | Congress Wave Building in TS, Says Suspended BJP Leader

HYDERABAD: A day after the BJP suspended Yennam Srinivas Reddy, one of its state vice-presidents and former Mahbubnagar MLA, he spoke to Deccan Chronicle about his suspension and the changing political landscape of Telangana. He said that the anti-incumbency factor against the BRS was reaching an acme and all pro-statehood agitation forces were rooting for a change.

On his next move after the BJP suspended him for anti-party activities and violation of discipline, Reddy said he would consult people of his constituency.

A former Central government employee, who served in the customs department at Delhi and Mumbai airports, Reddy had resigned from his job to participate in the separate Telangana agitation and was a vocal supporter of the TRS and part of the core team of Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao.

“I resigned from the TRS and joined the BJP because I felt that the ruling party had given up on its commitment to cater to the welfare of people, which had motivated us to fight for a separate state,” he said.

On why he was disappointed with the BJP, he said, “The BJP, which has now reached a clandestine deal with the pink party, is nowhere in the reckoning. We really believed that, with a government at the Centre, the BJP would fight Rao and work for the people of Telangana. But they too have let us down.”

On contesting in the Assembly elections, he said, “If I join any party, I will offer my services and candidature. It would then depend on the party to decide. But if I contest in Mahbubnagar, I will win hands down.”

On what made him confident about his prospects, he said that the anti-incumbency mood against MLA and minister V. Srinivas Goud had reached a peak following atrocities, extortion, forced settlements of land and businesses, and failure to deliver welfare schemes without corruption.

Speaking on the mood in the state, he said, “There is a massive anti-incumbency wave. All such people are galvanising behind the Congress as it is the only alternative to replace the BRS in the coming elections.”
