Decks cleared for Durai Murugan’s elevation in DMK

Durai Murugan also called on Rajathi Ammal, wife of late M Karunanidhi, at her residence in CIT Colony and sought her blessings

Chennai: The decks have been cleared for the DMK general council, scheduled to be held September 9, to announce the names of Durai Murugan and T R Baalu as the new general secretary and treasurer of the party.

Till Thursday evening, the last date for filing of nominations for the two key posts of the party, no one had filed their papers, thus giving no scope for the holding of elections. So the two leaders would be announced as elected unanimously, thus avoiding any sort of friction within the party.

Durai Murugan also called on Rajathi Ammal, wife of late M Karunanidhi, at her residence in CIT Colony and sought her blessings on his elevation to the second top post in the party.

He told the media that he was preparing to take over as general secretary with awe since it was a post held by stalwarts of the Dravidian movement like C N Annadurai, V R Nedunchezhian and K Anbazhagan.

While he was happy to be elected for the post as one who started off in the party as an ordinary cadre, he felt that he had a great responsibility to perform well.

Greeting both Durai Murugan and Baalu immediately after the news came out of their emerging as unanimous candidate, actor Rajanikanth wished them all the best. In his tweet, Rajinikanth described both their leaders as his respectful friends.
