SDPI: SC should intervene in Kashmir issue
TIRUCHY: The Socialist Democratic Party of India (SDPI) has demanded that the Centre should come out with a white paper on the present situation in Jammu and Kashmir after the revocation of Article 370, and spell out whether normalcy is returning to the people of Kashmir valley.
Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, SDP state president Nellai Mubarak, on the sidelines of the party's district office-bearers meeting, he said Centre should also restore communication network fully, especially Internet and other services and the media should be allowed into the valley and report about the situation to the country at large.
Mr. Mubarak also appealed to the Supreme court to intervene in the Kashmir issue and to ensure freedom for the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
Faulting the 'wrong economic policies' of the BJP government led by Sri Narendra Modi for the country's bad economic situation today, Mr. Mubarak said Centre should take steps on a war footing to restore the economy, including necessary changes in the fiscal and monetary policies. The SDPI would launch an agitation over the economic issue.
Referring to the NRC (National Registry of Citizens) declaration list in Assam, Mr. Mubarak said, "it is a clear indiscriminative action by both the Assam and the Union government in which over 19 lakh people of Assam including former President of India Fakruddin Ali Ahmed's family members, have been rendered refugees. Justice should be rendered to the affected people of Assam, he urged.
The steep hike in the toll fee at NHAI's toll plazas should also be withdrawn, he urged.
Among others, party's general secretaries, Nizam Mohideen, Abdul Hameed, and Umar Farooq, vice president Amjat Batcha, secretaries Rathinam, Ahamad Navavi, Abubuker Sidique, Safia and treasurer V.M. Abudakeer, spoke at the meeting.
