Hyderabad: TRS president and Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao on Saturday nominated former MP Gutha Sukhender Reddy as the party candidate for the election to the lone Legislative Council seat from the MLAs quota.
The Election Commis-sion on Friday had announced the schedule for the byelection to fill the vacancy caused by the disqualification of Mr K. Yadava Reddy on January 16. As per the EC notification, the election if necessary will be held on August 26. The term of Mr Yadava Reddy was to originally end on June 3, 2021.
The election is likely to be unanimous due to the huge majority the TS enjoys in the Assembly. Mr Rao had promised Mr Sukhender Reddy a nomination to the Council when he expressed his disinclination to contest for the Lok Sabha polls.
