Pawan takes short break from poll campaign
Vijayawada: Jana Sena chief Pawan Kalyan has taken a short break from his poll campaign on Varahi, to act in some new films. Four films are lined up for production, requiring his immediate presence.
His political opponents claimed that Pawan Kalyan’s first priority is acting and politics comes to him next.
Pawan Kalyan began his first round of poll campaign by offering prayers at the Lord Satyanarayana Temple at Annavaram in East Godavari on June 14. He toured several areas in the district through the Janavani programme and accepted grievances from the locals. He took out road shows and addressed public meetings, targeting the ruling YSRC. He ended first round of his political campaign on Varahi on June 30.
Pawan Kalyan’s road shows and public meetings created a hype in Godavari districts as sizeable numbers cheered him and urged him on while he frequently used film-style dialogues.
His speeches mainly focused on his plea to the people to give him one chance to govern the state and urged his community to support him in this endeavour. At the same time, he also wanted all castes to be united under him to defeat the YSRC in the next polls.
The Jana Sena leader’s public meetings unnerved the ruling party leaders including the Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, who went on to target Pawan Kalyan at a personal level.
Pawan Kalyan, on his part, has been promising development and communal amity.
Political analysts caution Pawan Kalyan that the abrupt stoppage of the poll campaign might be a wrong step as the political hype he created in recent days might lose its steam and he may have to restart his campaign all over again. Eventually, he might lose the trust of those who are looking for a strong political alternative to the ruling YSRC and Jagan Mohan Reddy, they say.
Pawan Kalyan’s challenge to the YSRC that he would not allow it to win even a single Assembly seat in Godavari district also drew criticism. He should rather have stated in an affirmative manner that he would win all the seats in Godavari districts, political analysts say.
Pawan Kalyan is camping in Hyderabad at present and taking part in the shooting of the films. He is acting in a film, for which he had taken the money a while ago.
Jana Sena political affairs committee chairman Nadendla Manohar said, “We are taking local inputs and working out logistics to resume our party chief’s poll campaign in West Godavari shortly. Pawan Kalyan has been running the party for the last 10 years. Unless we have financial resources and other logistics, it becomes very difficult to run the party. Hence, he continues with his commitments in the film industry.”
