Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee poll-panel report likely today

The revamping of KPCC and lower levels of the party would depend on the outcome of the four regional reports on the poll defeat.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The four fact-finding committees appointed by KPCC president V.M. Sudheeran are on their last leg of compiling details that led to the Congress rout in the Assembly elections. The final report is expected to be submitted before Sudheeran on Monday.

The four KPCC sub-committees are headed by KPCC general secretaries V.A. Narayanan (Kannur, Kasaragod and Wayanad), Sajeev Joseph (Palakkad, Kozhikode and Malappuram), KPCC vice-president Bharatipuram Sasi (Alappuzha, Ernakulam, Thrissur) and KPCC treasurer Johnson Abraham (Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam and Pathanamthitta). They will compile their findings at KPCC on Monday afternoon.

The committee heads are tight-lipped on their findings, but sources told DC that they would submit their findings “as it is” to KPCC president V. M. Sudheeran. “The ball is in the court of Sudheeran to reveal the committee’s findings. Already leaders like K. Babu had spoken against Sudheeran before the panel on his defeat at Thrippunithura. It should be recalled that Sudheeran had asked the fact-finding committees to come out with a neutral report and should not have any vested interests”, said a KPCC general secretary to DC.

The time-limit given by Sudheeran to the four regional panels to submit their reports falls on July 5. The KPCC and lower level party revamping would depend on the outcome of the four regional reports on the poll defeat. At the first sitting of the four regional committees at KPCC office here, Mr Sudheeran had warned that those leaders who were found guilty would be dealt with severely.

Sudheeran has reasons to say so as the fact finding committees headed by veteran leaders, Thennala Balakrishna Pillai (2009 Lok Sabha) and Vakkom Purushothaman (2011 Assembly elections) are yet to see the light of the day. The sub-committees had come up with a common set of guidelines which included the list of local leaders who have been consulted, candidates, election committee leaders, those leaders who have raised allegations etc.

The four subcommittees have visited 12 districts except Kottayam and Idukki as these two districts have not witnessed serious allegations. They would also probe whether the jumbo committees at the district level have played spoilsport in the Assembly elections or not.
