MP Raju seeks repeal of sedition law

Alleges custodial torture in letter to MPs

Vijayawada: The rebel YSRC MP, K. Raghu Ramakrishna Raju, has written a letter to his fellow members seeking their support for amendment or repeal of Section 124 A of IPC dealing with sedition. He also alleged custodial torture by AP-CID in the letter.

The MP in his letter stated that he was subjected to custodial torture after invoking the draconian and colonial Section 124 A of IPC dealing with sedition. He said that his critical evaluation of various schemes and other initiatives launched by the current dispensation in the state was seen from a prejudiced prism and regrettably some developed a personal grudge against his fair, unbiased and impartial analysis. He further said that his stand against the misrule of AP government was vindicated by over 150 judgements issued by AP High Court and also Supreme Court and added that it would bear testimony in unequivocal terms to the very fact that the state government was not discharging its responsibility in compliance with constitutional norms.

The MP pointed out that the state administration at the orders of Chief Minister foisted several false cases on him while some of them were stayed by the AP High Court and stated that several threats were issued to him publicly by the trumpeters of CM. He explained the circumstances leading to his arrest after booking him under charges of sedition. He was accused of instigating communal violence and caste conflicts by the APCID sleuths who assaulted him on the night of May 14 during interrogation.

Meanwhile, the Virudhunagar MP from Tamil Nadu, Manickam Tagore, tweeted that, “Shocked to see the letter from my Lok Sabha colleague Raghu Ramakrishna Raju. It’s cruel and utter madness from the AP Police. Ideologically, I differ from the MP Raju but if it can happen to a Parliamentarian, what will happen to any ordinary political worker in Andhra. It’s Hitler Raj?”
