Congress in demand: Mohammad Ali Shabbir
Kamareddy: Congress leader Mohammad Ali Shabbir said that youth, intellectuals, academics, professionals and others were showing interest in joining the Congress under the leadership of AICC president Rahul Gandhi. “There is a sea change among people of different walks of life to switch loyalties from other political outfits to the Congress," he said.
Mr Shabbir Ali, Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Council, was addressing hundreds of followers of NRI-turned-politician K. Madan Mohan Rao from the Zaheerabad Parliamentary constituency, who joined the Congress from TRS and Telugu Desam in Kamareddy on Sunday.
A meeting was conducted here at Sathya Gardens to welcome the cadres into the party fold. Mr madan Mohan Rao made PowerPoint presentation on the political situation in the state.
Mr Shabbir Ali said the people in the state and elsewhere in the country were showing interest to support the Congress in the elections. “There is silent wave against the TRS and the NDA,” he said.
Mr Shabbir Ali said the flagship programmes taken up by TRS government had failed so far. The Rythu Bandhu scheme was benefiting only 14 per cent landlords in the state instead of 86 per cent small and marginal farmers. Ignoring the ground realities, the TRS government was preferring politically motivated programmes.
Mr madan Mohan Rao said the state had become No. 1 for increase in suicides, liquor sales and corruption.
