MK Vishnuprasad expelled from Congress

The former MLA also took objection to the use of former Union minister Anbumani Ramadoss' name in the statement issued by Mr Elangovan.

Chennai: Tamil Nadu Congress Committee on Friday expelled former MLA M. K. Vishnuprasad for bringing “disrepute” to the party by making “uncalled for” remarks against the Congress.

However, a defiant Vishnuprasad, who was president of Tamil Nadu Youth Congress, challenged the decision saying Mr Elangovan has no rights to expel him from the party.

In a statement here, Mr Elangovan said he was expelling Mr Vishnuprasad, son of former TNCC chief M. Krishnasamy, for his critical comments on the Congress’ election strategy that amount to anti-party activity. “Hen-ce, he is being removed from the primary membership of the party,” Mr Elangovan said in the statement.

Reacting to the TNCC chief’s statement, Mr Vishnuprasad, who lost the recent Assembly elections from Cheyyar constituency in Tiruvannamalai district, said he would be continue to be in Congress unless he gets a confirmation from AICC about his expulsion.

“E.V.K.S. Elangovan has no rights whatsoever to expel me from the party. Only the AICC can expel me. Let the AICC issue a statement that I have been expelled. Mr Elangovan never bothered to even call me and ask about my election campaign during the just concluded polls. He is not interested in running the party,” he said.

The former MLA also took objection to the use of former Union minister Anbumani Ramadoss’ name in the statement issued by Mr Elangovan.
