Knee surgeries to begin at all government hospitals
Hyderabad: The state government will launch knee replacement operations at all state-run hospitals, health minister T. Harish Rao announced on Tuesday. Until now, these surgeries were being conducted only at Gandhi Hospital and Osmania General Hospital in the government sector.
The minister made the announcement after visiting the Government General Hospital in Siddipet on Tuesday and interacting with three patients who had recently undergone successful knee replacement surgeries.
Harish Rao said with this initiative, the poor would be able to get these expensive surgeries done. He said knee replacement surgeries usually cost around Rs 5 lakh at private hospitals, and asked the people to have more confidence in government hospitals.
The minister said two persons would undergo knee replacement surgeries every week at the hospital in Siddipet. Around two out of every 10 people suffer from knee pain, he added.
