VS Achuthanandan blames CM Oommen Chandy for Infosys withdrawal
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Opposition Leader V.S. Achuthanandan on Tuesday attacked the Chief Minister holding him responsible for Infosys withdrawing from their proposed campus at the Technocity citing lack of cooperation from government.
In a Facebook post, the opposition leader said the company had also taken back Rs 47 crore from the Government which was deposited for the proposed project. He posted the letter sent by Infosys announcing its withdrawal from Technocity .
Achuthanandan said he had visited Infosys Bangalore office as chief minister and the LDF Government had offered all support for setting up campus here. Infosys had also announced setting up of another campus in an area of 50 acres of land which would provide 10,000 jobs.
After the change in government, in 2012 April Infosys deposited Rs 47.54 crore and signed an MoU. However, three years later Infosys took the money back and withdrew from the proposed project which had promised to provide 10,000 jobs.
The opposition leader posted the letter written by Infosys which stated ; “We are not getting any support from Technopark in setting up basic infrastructure at Technocity and we wish to withdraw our proposed project. In this context we would like to surrender the land allotted to us at Technocity back to Technopark. We request you to kindly do the needful and return the amount ofRs 47,54,08,760.
Achuthanandan said apart from Infosys, other companies including Capegemini and Accenture also packed up. Despite such setbacks he has the audacity of speaking about his achievements in the IT sector.
