Xeroxed currency serve as cash tokens in O Panneerselvam rally at Pollachi
Coimbatore: Election flying squad officials lodged a complaint with the Pollachi east wing police station, after fake currency notes were allegedly distributed as cash tokens during a campaign by deputy chief minister O Panneerselvam at Pollachi.
According to sources, deputy chief minister O. Panneerselvam was campaigning near Pollachi town Girl’s Higher Secondary School on Tuesday night, in support of the AIADMK Pollachi constituency candidate, Mahendran.
Hundreds of cadres from Pollachi and Valparai had assembled at the campaign spot. Flying squad officials received a secret tip off that money was being distributed to women party cadres who attended the campaign. Officials rushed to the spot on ABT road near the government middle school. On spotting the flying squad officials, a huge crowd of women started dispersing from the spot. Officials seized a few colour xerox fake currency notes of Rs 200, Rs 500 and Rs 2,000 from a few women, allegedly used as tokens for money distribution.
During an enquiry, a woman told the officials that a former woman councillor of the AIADMK had brought them to the campaign area during the visit of Deputy Chief Minister OPS and distributed fake currency notes in advance, as tokens to exchange into authentic Rs 500 currency notes, at the end of the campaign.
