Thiruvananthapuram: EC names KS Chithra, E Sreedharan as poll icons
Thiruvananthapuram: Election Commission has selected singer K. S. Chitra and 'metro-man' E. Sreedharan as the election icons for the state.
The announcement came at the function where Governor P. Sathasivam released the election theme song on Wednesday. Jyothirgamaya Foundation founder Tiffany Brar received the CD.
The governor hoped that the voting percentage in the state would increase due to the effective campaign initiated by the commission. During the last Lok Sabha elections, the voting was 74.02 per cent. The election commission is trying to increase it to 90 per cent, said Mr Sathasivam.
Mr Sathasivam added that statistics proved that women turned up for voting more than men in the state, he said.Chief electoral officer Teeka Ram Meena who presided over the function said that the election was being held as per the green protocol.
"We have removed more than six lakh flex boards," he said.
Election Song 2019 Bharata Bhagya Vidhathakkal Naam is written by K. Jayakumar, former chief secretary, who is also a well-known lyricist. Playback legend Chitra gives the voice for the four minutes. Mr Meena is also the producer of the election song.
