Thiruvananthapuram: Congress campaigns hit
Thiruvananthapuram: With Congress president Rahul Gandhi contesting from Wayanad, the campaigning in rest of the constituencies has almost come to a standstill.
It affected more than a dozen conventions fixed for Wednesday and Thursday with the KPCC top brass as they are concentrating on Mr Gandhi's Wayanad trip for filing nomination.
Ever since Mr Gandhi’s candidature announced on Sunday, KPCC leaders have been euphoric. All of a sudden, their body language changed.
While the top brass got excited, another set of leaders, especially candidates and their workers have realised the danger ahead.
A KPCC general secretary said they had planned more than a dozen conventions these two days.
“Sadly, thousands of posters designed and distributed have gone in vain. With the top brass focusing on Mr Gandhi’s programme, the conventions have been called off in several constituencies,” he told DC.
“But we are hoping that since Rahul Gandhi will be returning from Wayanad on Thursday itself, the focus will be back on the remaining 15 constituencies where Congress is contesting.”
But Mr Gandhi’s sister and AICC general secretary Priyanka Gandhi is expected to visit Wayanad on and off in his absence.
A top leader said since Mr Gandhi is expected to travel all over the country, he is expected here only for three days before the polls on April 23.
KPCC president Mullappally Ramacha- ndran is the Wayanad election committee chairman with Sadik Ali Shihab Thangal as the general convener.
"Other two senior leaders, Oommen Chandy and Ramesh Chennithala too will be focusing on Wayanad, while juggling with other key constituencies,” he told DC.
