DMK against pro-people initiatives: Edappadi K Palaniswami

Palaniswami accused the DMK of striking an “opportunistic” alliance and as a result that party had lost the people’s faith.

Chennai: Contending that the DMK’s past deeds exposed its hidden agenda of obstructing development, Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami said the DMK was against pro-people initiatives and urged the voters to send the DMK packing home.

Campaigning at Thirubuvanam for ally BJP’s candidate for Sivaganga H. Raja and AIADMK candidate for Manamadurai Assembly by-election Nagarajan, on Wednesday Palaniswami said the DMK had opposed the distribution of the Pongal gift of Rs 1,000 to the poor and also the State government’s cash dole of Rs 2,000 to all the BPL families in TN, under the pretext of opposing the AIADMK. But this only exposed the DMK’s true intention of being anti development and against the well-being of the people, he said.

“Did we announce the pro-people schemes only to extend aid to our party members? Have we not attempted to distribute the cash doles to people irrespective of their party affiliations? But the DMK finds a reason to oppose the implementation of people-friendly programmes. Do we need such a party in our State?” he asked and called upon the people to send the DMK packing home this Lok Sabha election.

Also, Palaniswami accused the DMK of striking an “opportunistic” alliance and as a result that party had lost the people’s faith, he said.

His AIADMK on the other hand forged an alliance with the BJP and other parties to do good to the people and to serve them. Pitching for a second term for Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the CM who is AIADMK joint coordinator, said the country needs a “strong, efficient and determined” leader like Modi to handle issues like terrorism. “We have forged (such an) alliance to ensure he returns to power at the Centre again,” he added.
