Hyderabad: AIMIM president and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi on Monday demanded the state and Central governments put in place a mechanism to ensure police officers are held accountable for lapses in investigation and booking innocents in offences.
Reacting to the acquittal of Satyam Babu in the Ayesha Meera murder case, Mr Owaisi said that as long as there was no such mechanism in place, no one can put a stop to cases like Satyam Babu who suffered for years.
He said “It’s unfortunate for this country that no party has tried to make investigation officers be held accountable whenever the court found fault with them or made adverse observations against them.”
Stating that Satyam Babu’s case was a classic case for making officers accountable, Mr Owaisi said, “Political parties still have time to think what could be done in such cases where lives of innocent youngsters are ruined when the police makes them scapegoats in cases.”
