Election Commission notice to TTV Dhinakaran on Two leaves' symbol

In a notice issued to Dhinakaran, the EC asked him to furnish his reply by April 6 on the complaints received with regard to usage of the symbol.

Chennai: Election Commission on Monday slapped a notice on AIADMK (Amma) candidate for RK Nagar bypolls T.T.V. Dhinakaran seeking an explanation on complaints that his faction was still using the frozen “Two Leaves” symbol on its Facebook and Twitter pages.

In a notice issued to Mr Dhinakaran, the Election Commission asked him to furnish his reply by April 6 on the complaints received with regard to usage of the frozen symbol.

The notice also asked Mr Dhinakaran to ensure that the “Two Leaves” symbol be removed from websites and pages of social networking sites immediately.

The notice said prima facie the actions by the party have violated the Model Code of Conduct since images of the frozen symbol were used in public platforms.

The Election Commission had on March 22 frozen the Two Leaves symbol and prevented both factions of the AIADMK from using the party name in the elections.
