Will TMC's wait for an ally end?

Though the party has been openly wooing the AIADMK for the past few months but no concrete understanding was arrived between two parties.

Chennai: Tamil Maanila Congress’ search for an alliance partner could possibly end this week with ample indications that the party has received the green signal for a tie-up from the ruling AIADMK. Highly-placed sources told DC on Sunday that hectic negotiations are on between the two parties and a formal announcement of the electoral understanding would be made in the coming week.

TMC, which was revived by late G.K. Moopanar’s son G.K. Vasan in November, 2014 after he quit the Congress, is the only major party which has not yet announced its election strategy though the polls are less than 45 days away. Though the party has been openly wooing the AIADMK for the past few months but no concrete understanding was arrived at between the two parties.

Playing the hard ball, the AIADMK invited the TMC for talks only a few days ago and the discussions are now centered on the number of seats that would be allotted to the junior partner. “Talks are going on. Leaders negotiating from our side have made it clear that they need an honorable number of seats. Most probably, the two sides will reach an agreement in the next few days,” a senior TMC leader told DC.
