Campaigning in MLC polls gets intensified

ANANTAPUR: Ruling YSRC, opposition Telugu Desam and left parties have intensified their campaigning for the graduate and teacher MLC constituencies in Anantapur area.

The ruling party has deployed its MPs and MLAs in the campaigning. Senior Telugu Desam leaders have been organising mandal-level meetings to attract voters in favour of their candidates.

Due to intensity of their campaigns, the MLC polls in Rayalaseema are attracting more attention than the polls in other parts of AP.

Leaders of left parties campaigning in the MLC polls have complained against the Kadapa in-charge regional joint director Prathap Reddy, alleging he is actively supporting YSRC candidates from Rayalaseema West.

CPI state secretary K. Ramakrishna accused Prathap Reddy of organising dinners and parties for teachers, so that they vote in favour of the YSRC candidate.

Responding to the series of complaints, State Election Commission has directed Prathap Reddy not to leave the headquarters till completion of the MLC elections.

Further, Kurnool and Anantapur district administrations have served notices on several teachers for campaigning in MLC elections in violation of rules. These teachers are reportedly working in favour of the left party candidate in the region.
