Telangana cops protect whistleblower'

T. Lokeswara Reddy had complained that infotech company IT Grids Pvt Ltd was using AP govt data to benefit the TD.

Hyderabad: The Andhra Pradesh police on Sunday tried to whisk away T. Lokeswara Reddy, who had lodged a police complaint about infotech company IT Grids Pvt Ltd, which reportedly stole confidential data of AP voters through its app, Sevamitra, to benefit the Telugu Desam.

The AP police’s attempt was thwarted when Mr Reddy called the Telangana state police, who rushed to his house and took him away to the Cyberabad police commissionerate.

At about 11 am, six police personnel headed by Guntur ACP Kulashekar reached Indu Fortune Fields, where Mr Reddy lives with his wife and daughter.

The watchman prevented the AP police from entering the premises for some time and then alerted Mr Reddy, who immediately informed the Cyberabad police and called his relatives and friends, expressing fear for his life.

By the time the AP police had got past the watchman, the TS police had arrived. The AP police wanted to take Mr Reddy to Pedakakani in Guntur district of AP claiming that a missing person complaint had been registered regarding him there.

The Cyberabad police took down details of the AP police party and then took Mr Reddy into safe custody as he is a complainant in the case against IT Grids. Stating that the AP police had filed a petition in the High Court, Mr Reddy asked, “How can you harass a whistleblower?”
