MK Stalin to help Kolathur regain its lost green cover
Chennai: Leader of Opposition M.K. Stalin, who visited his constituency Kolathur, on Friday said the DMK workers would plant 1,500 saplings in the constituency which had lost its green cover due to cyclone Vardah.
He said hundreds of trees had fallen in Kolathur constituency during cyclone Vardah and added that his party would plant 100 tree saplings in every taluk.
Besides, measures will be taken to maintain and protect them, he assured.
Stalin visited five government schools in the area and inspected the facilities for students, besides receiving petitions from the public. He also planted 10 saplings in the area and presented a machine bought from the MLA constituency development fund to remove sewage in the constituency.
Speaking to reporters, Stalin said several requests were made when he visited schools in the constituency. The demands included additional classrooms, toilet facilities, RO plant and computer facilities, he said and promised to provide the facilities utilising the constituency development funds and his own.
When asked if a retired high court judge would bring out the truth behind the violence in Marina, Stalin said he too had the same doubts. He also urged the Central and state governments to take speedy action to remove the oil spill in the Chennai coast. He also expressed regret over the stopping of subsidy for gas cylinders and sugar.
