Kerala leaders face heat at DYFI meet

Talking to reporters on Friday Rajesh said critical references were made during the discussions.

Kochi: The confession about a setback suffered by pro-CPM Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) by its president M.B. Rajesh has been viewed as ploy to mellow down the criticism during the ongoing national conference of the outfit. A section of delegates, especially belonging to Andhra Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Tamil Nadu have castigated the leadership during the discussions on the political organisational report presented at the meeting.

Sources said that a section of the delegates raised objections to the style of functioning of the leaders from Kerala and West Bengal and said that most of them were interested only in using their positions to make political gains such as contesting in Parliament and Assembly elections. Talking to reporters on Friday Rajesh said critical references were made during the discussions. The criticism was mainly on the failure of the organisation to accelerate its growth in North Indian states.

DYFI for gay rights: The DYFI national meet has called for the abolition of article 377 in the constitution making homosexuality, criminal offence, in the country. A resolution adopted in the meeting on Friday has also called for the protection of the rights of members of the LBGT community. The other major demands raised by the outfit included a constitutional amendment for bringing job reservation in the private sector and Rohit Act to end caste discrimination prevailing in the academic institutions in the country.
