Telangana Assembly Elections: Four MPs, three MLCs win elections comfortably

If they chose to stay in the Assembly and resign from Lok Sabha, byelections to their constituencies might not be required

Hyderabad: Four MPs and three MLCs won the Telangana Assembly elections with ease on Sunday. Incidentally, the three BJP MPs lost their elections.
The seven MPs in the fray were A. Revanth Reddy, Komatireddy Venkat Reddy and N. Uttam Kumar Reddy from the Congress, Kotha Prabhakar Reddy from the BRS, and Bandi Sanjay Kumar, Soyam Bapu Rao and Dharmapuri Arvind from the BJP.

Of them, Venkat Reddy won by 54,332 votes from Nalgonda, Revanth Reddy 32,532 votes from Kodangal and Uttam Kumar Reddy by 44,888 votes from Huzurnagar. Prabhakar Reddy won with 53,513 votes from Dubbak.

If they chose to stay in the Assembly and resign from the Lok Sabha, byelections to their constituencies might not be required as the general elections were due to be held in the six months.

Sanjay, Bapu Rao and Arvind lost the elections.

Four MLCs — Kasireddy Narayan Reddy and T Jeevan Reddy from Congress, and Palla Rajeshwar Reddy and Kadiyam Srihari from the BRS — contested the elections.

Narayan Reddy won from from Kalwakurthy, Rajeshwar Reddy from Jangoan and Srihari from Station Ghanpur, while Jeevan Reddy lost. Narayan Reddy, who joined the Congress from the BRS, emerged victorious with 5,410 votes while Rajeshwar Reddy and Srihari won by 15,783 votes and 7,779 votes, respectively.

The decision taken by the BRS leadership to give tickets to Rajeshwar Reddy and Srihari, replacing MLAs Muttireddy Yadagiri Reddy and T. Rajaiah, yielded results. Though there was some resentment over denying tickets to them, Yadagiri Reddy Rajaiah promised to cooperate with Rajeshwar Reddy and Srihari during polls after much persuasion.

Narayan Reddy left the BRS as he was unhappy for not giving him a ticket replacing the MLA G. Jaipal Yadav. When he planned to contest Assembly elections in 2018, the BRS leadership advised him to drop the plan.
