Andhra Pradesh discoms to refund true-up charges to consumers

Discoms had collected true-up amounts from consumers in the months of September and October this year

VIJAYAWADA: Andhra Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission (APERC) has decided to refund true-up charges collected from electricity consumers. The commission has already issued directions to Discoms in this regard.

Discoms had collected true-up amounts from consumers in the months of September and October this year. All political parties, barring ruling YSR Congress, apart from majority organisations and associations, opposed the collection of true-up charges. They submitted requisitions to APERC, pointing out that people are already facing severe financial difficulties due to Covid crisis. True-up amounts retrospectively will only impose on them additional financial burden.

Responding to the request, APERC has now instructed Discoms to stop collecting true-up charges. The commission instructed Discoms to refund the collected true-up amounts by way of adjusting the already collected charges in subsequent electricity bills. APCPDCL will refund to its consumers the already collected true-up amounts in the December 2021 bill.

CPM state executive member Ch. Babu Rao welcomed the decision and said their efforts have yielded good results.
