YSRC government mentioned governor's name with ulterior motive, says TD
VIJAYAWADA: The Telugu Desam on Tuesday accused the YSRC government of deliberately making Governor Biswabhushan Harichandan personally accountable for the Rs 25,000 crore loan it has taken through the AP state development corporation (APSDC).
TD spokesman Syed Rafi said that in such deals, the office of governor would be mentioned in official correspondence, but the name would be omitted. “But, in the bank guarantees for the APSDC’s massive loans, Harichandan's name was mentioned obviously with ulterior motives. A concerned governor had to write a letter to the government, objecting to the mention of his name in the bank guarantees.”
Rafi told media that the governor's name was mortgaged to bring in Rs 25,000 crore of loans in the name of the Jagananna welfare programmes.
He blamed the governor's style of functioning for the present “sorry state of affairs” in Andhra Pradesh. He recalled that the TD had complained to the governor repeatedly on the deterioration in the law and order situation, the attacks on TD national office and on former CM Chandrababu Naidu's residence, apart from the several strictures passed by the courts. “Sadly, the governor did not take action and remained soft on the omissions of the Jagan dispensation,” he said.
The TD leader asked whether the Governor had brought to the notice of the Centre “the failure of systems and institutions in AP.”
“We do not know whether Harichandan informed the Centre about the AP government's serious lapses in relation to the APSDC loans. In future, Harichandan would be made accountable for the loans even if he retired and went back to his home state, Odisha,” Rafi said.
“It is being 'irresponsible' on the part of the government to simply say that a mistake occurred in preparing the bank guarantees. Over six to seven IAS officers would be involved in passing these files and lots of employees would have checked them at various levels. How can senior civil servant SS Rawat describe it as a simple mistake when thousands of crores were involved in the deal?”
The TD leader demanded that the senior officer explain how the mistake could now be rectified.
