BJP to go solo in KMC polls
Kakinada: The rift between the Telugu Desam (TD) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) at the local level has widened to such an extent that the BJP has decided to go solo in the upcoming municipal corporation elections here.
The BJP said TD leaders were trying to humiliate them by not giving proper importance in the government schemes and functions.
For the past one and half year, the differences between the two allies have been growing, and BJP leaders complained that the TD was not treating them properly and it was not adhering to the principles of political alliance.
No BJP leader had been appointed to any committees and of late, the TD allegedly plotted wooing a group within the BJP at local level.
The BJP district unit had recommended two leaders for two temple trust boards, but temple executive officials did not allow them to take oath.
The saffron party had won two KMC wards in 2001, but it lost the seats in 2011 elections. The party hopes to win four divisions in the upcoming KMC polls and fears ally with the TD might spoil its prospects.
“The party is being strengthened in Kakinada city as many youth and educated people are appreciating Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s governance. However, the TD is not following principles of political alliance,’’ said BJP district president Y. Malakondaiah.
He said the state leadership had given permission to the local unit of BJP to contest on its own in the coming municipal corporation elections.
Meanwhile, TD MLA Vanamadi Venkateswara Rao said if there were no alliance with the BJP, the TD would capture all seats in the polls.
