BJP state meet to discuss Lok Sabha polls

The state committee will be held on October 5 in Kozhikode.

Thiruvananthapuram: The BJP State committee meeting will be held on Oct 5 in Kozhikode to report on last weekend’s three-day BJP national council. It will discuss preparations for 2019 Lok Sabha elections and will also report on the various schemes the party will be taking up for the next one year coinciding with the year-long birth centenary celebrations of the Bharatiya Jana Sangh leader Deendayal Upadhyaya launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the Kozhikode national council.

BJP national president Amit Shah had congratulated the BJP State leadership headed by Kummanam Rajasekharan and his team of leaders for the smooth conduct of the three-day-long national executive and council meeting which was held at Kozhikode during Sept 23-25. It was held for the first time in the State on such a massive scale and saw almost 4000 delegates attending. At the State committee meeting being held on Oct 5 at Kozhikode, it will prepare a working plan for the preparations towards the 2019 LS elections.

“The decisions taken at the national council will be reported to the members of the BJP State committee members. The BJP national leadership has told the State BJP leadership that they want to see the victory of 12 LS candidates and nothing less than that. Though it will be Amit Shah who will be giving us a road map for the preparations towards the LS elections, we still have to make our own preparations”, said a top BJP leader to DC.

Meanwhile, State BJP leaders claimed that Kummanam had called former organising general secretary of the BJP P. P. Mukundan over phone to invite him for the Smriti Sandhya programme which was held to honour those former Jana Sangh leaders who had attended the plenary session of the Jana Sangh held in Kozhikode in 1967. Modi had felicitated senior party leaders who had gone to jail during the Emergency.

“Unfortunately, Mukundan did not attend his call. The confirmation to go ahead came from the PMO and security agencies at the last minute. So the leadership faced practical difficulty in going to Mukundan’s home in Kannur and personally invite him”, said a BJP general secretary.
