YSR Statue Unveiled on BRTS Road, Minister Vanitha Recalls Services of YSR

VIJAYAWADA: Home Minister Taneti Vanitha has said the late chief minister YS Rajasekhar Reddy worked for the development of the poor and brought light to the lives of millions of students from poor families by implementing various welfare schemes for their higher education.

Vanitha along with Rajya Sabha member Rami Reddy, Vijayawada central MLA Malladi Vishnu and West MLA Vellampalli Srinivas unveiled the YSR statue on the Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS) Road here on Sunday.

State Fibernet chairman Gowtham Reddy and the YSR Trade Union jointly erected the YSR statue. He remembered the services of YS Rajasekhar Reddy.

Minister Vanitha stated that by bringing the Arogyasri scheme, YSR provided corporate medical treatment to the poor people and saved many lives. “Even if he was physically distant from the people, he had a permanent place in their hearts,” she said and added that chief minister Jagan Reddy was also ruling the state on the same lines as his father YSR did.

Rami Reddy recalled, “Dr. YSR was the first to introduce free power, fee reimbursement and Arogysari schemes in AP. He is alive in the hearts and minds of the people. The present state government led by CM Jagan is also giving top priority to education and health sectors,” he said.

State Planning Commission vice chairman and Vijayawada Central MLA Malladi Vishnu said Jagan Reddy as CM helped Vijayawada develop faster. “Dr YSR brought the Congress Party to power in the 2004 and 2009 elections in the combined state,” he noted.

YSR Trade Union President and state Fibernet chairman Gowtham Reddy said that for the first time, his trade union arranged the erection of the statue of Dr YSR. This trade union began with two to three associations and now it has 80 affiliates, he said.
