Vidayasagar Rao welcomes the initiative to celebrate Hyderabad Liberation Day

HYDERABAD: Former Governor Ch. Vidyasagar Rao welcomed the initiative of the BJP, the TRS and the MIM to celebrate Hyderabad Liberation Day on September 17. He said that BJP was organising the meeting with Chief Ministers of Maharashtra and Karnataka in Hyderabad, and MIM president Asaduddin Owaisi had also agreed to celebrate the event, he said.

Speaking to reporters at the BJP state office on Saturday, Vidyasagar Rao said that BJP had held demonstrations for years demanding that the government celebrate the Hyderabad State merger into the Indian Union as an official programme. During the golden jubilee celebrations of independence in 1998, the BJP had conducted a meeting with freedom fighters of the then princely state, he recalled.

Vidyasagar Rao pointed out that the statue of tribal leader Komaram Bheem had been installed on Tank Bund but not that of the journalist Shoebullah Khan. Both had fought against the Nizam government, Vidyasagar Rao said. He expressed happiness over Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao deciding to conduct the Liberation Day celebrations.
