TD president tirade against Jagan at Pulivendula meet

ANANTAPUR: Claiming his exclusive efforts in bringing water to Pulivendula through the Galeru Nagari Sujala Sravanthi project by diversion of Krishna waters, TD president Nara Chandrababu Naidu has appealed to the people of Pulivendula to bless TD to ushering in fast-paced development.

He came down heavily on Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, who “did nothing” for Rayalaseema region’s irrigation projects. “Jagan Mohan Reddy spent only Rs.2,000 crore for irrigation projects of Rayalaseema while all major works are on hold and he is coming up with new proposals like having a tunnel at Gandikota instead of completion of the pending works”, Naidu said.

He said no chief minister had given water to Pulivendula in 40 years while the TD government initiated plans to irrigate Kadapa district. “Sweet orange farmers have garlanded me with orange fruits for fulfilling their dream by giving water to save orchards during TD rule,” he said.

Addressing a public meeting at Pulivendula town on Wednesday night, Naidu came down heavily on Jagan Mohan Reddy over “lapses” in irrigation project works in his own district. No steps were initiated to rebuilt Annamayya project which was destroyed due to floods two years ago, he said.

Naidu said Galeru Nagari and Handri Neeva projects were initiated during the TD term as the party’s founder N.T. Rama Rao made wanted to do justice for Rayalaseema.

Naidu said if the Polavaram works were completed, every tail-end area in Rayalaseema would have been getting sufficient water for irrigation.

“Sunitha has been fighting for justice to find out the main culprits in the murder of her father, but Jagan Mohan Reddy never supported her. Sharmila was ignored as the MP candidate and she migrated to Telangana,” Naidu observed.

A tense situation was evident in Pulivendula since Wednesday afternoon after the police reportedly directed the TD leaders to shift the venue of their public meeting to near Venkateswara Swamy temple, instead of Poola Angalla Circle in the town. TD leaders blamed police, saying cops had not issued permission even as they submitted a representation three days ago.

Though the dais and mike set were about to be fixed at Poola Angalla area, the police directed the TD leaders to hold the public meeting, instead, near the Venkateswara Swamy temple area, a few metres away from the original spot.

The TD leaders shifted the venue to near the Venkateswara Swamy temple area. TD incharge BTech Ravi alleged that the YSRC leaders were mounting pressure on the police to disturb the Naidu meeting and hence the change of venue.

Meanwhile, police sources said there was no obstruction to Chandrababu Naidu’s roadshows and public meeting including in Pulivendula.

Speculations were rife over YSRC cadres planning a protest with black badges and flags against Chandrababu Naidu. But, the roadshow and public meeting were held without any disturbance in Pulivendula, the home turf of chief minister Jagan Reddy.

Police posted additional forces at Naidu’s road shows and public meetings at Jammalamadugu and Pulivendula.

Meanwhile, Naidu announced B.Tch Ravi as the party candidate from the Pulivendula assembly segment and requested the people of Pulivendula to bless him to ensure exclusive development of the area.
