AP firm on shifting high court to Kurnool after obtaining clearances

Rs 100 crore has been earmarked for new buildings for the Silver Jubilee College at Jagannatha Gattu along with National Law University

ANANTAPUR: In view of the Centre’s positive response to AP’s plan to shift the state high court to Kurnool, the state government would speed up its steps to obtain clearances in this respect.

The state government also proposes to establish National Law University at Jagannatha Gattu area in Kurnool.

About Rs 100 crore has been earmarked for new buildings for the Silver Jubilee College at Jagannatha Gattu along with National Law University.

Finance minister Rajendranath Reddy, during his visit to Kurnool, said on Tuesday that the government was firm on shifting the high court to Kurnool as part of its plans for decentralisation of state administration.

“After obtaining necessary clearances and permissions, we will shift the HC to Kurnool to develop the city as AP’s judicial capital”, he said.

Union law minister Kiran Rijiju recently said the proposal for shifting the HC to Kurnool was received from the state government and it was up to the state government to take a decision after consultations with the AP high court.

"The state government bears all the expenses for the high court’s maintenance. Hence, the shifting proposal can be taken forward by a combined decision of the AP government and the high court, with final clearance from the Centre," it is pointed out.
