AIADMK legislator AK Bose passes away in Madurai

He is survived by his wife, two sons and two daughters.

Chennai: Ruling AIADMK’s legislator A.K. Bose, who represented the Tirupparankunram Assembly constituency, died in Madurai early on Thursday morning following prolonged illness. He was 69.

He is survived by his wife, two sons and two daughters. This three-time MLA was not keeping good health for sometime. According to sources, Bose complained of chest pain and was rushed to hospital but died on the way.

Bose was elected MLA from Thirupparankunram constituency in Madurai district thrice. He won the by-election after S M Seenivelu who won the seat in the May 2016 Assembly elections died before taking oath as an MLA.

Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami and Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam expressed their condolences. “Bose was loyal to the AIADMK and J Jayalalithaa,” a party statement said. DMK Working President and Leader of Opposition in the Assembly M.K. Stalin also condoled Bose’s death, saying it was a big loss to the people of Thirupparnkunram.

Bose, who joined the AIADMK as the youth wing leader and had served as Party’s Madurai Urban District Secretary, had unsuccessfully contested the Madurai Lok Sabha seat in the 2004 polls, before becoming MLA for the first time in 2006 when he was elected from Tirupparankunram.

In 2011, he was elected from Madurai North Assembly seat, but was denied ticket in the 2016 Assembly polls. However, the death of Seenivelu, enabled Bose contest the bypoll and became MLA for the third time. He was one of the fence-sitters when former Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa’s close aide V.K Sasikala and TTV Dhinakaran were expelled from the party, before he decided to support Chief Minsiter Edappadi K Palaniswami.
