Mangaluru BJP MLA Bharath Shetty first Karnataka legislator to test covid positive

Dakshina Kannada which has been recording many positive cases in recent days also saw three senior health department officials test positive

Mangaluru City North MLA Dr. Bharath Shetty became the first MLA in Karnataka to test COVID positive on Thursday.

He along with three senior officials from the health department were among the 90 tested COVID positive in Dakshina Kannada district on Thursday.
Rumors of the MLA testing positive were making rounds since the evening. By 6.45 the MLA himself put an end to the rumors by declaring the news on his official Twitter account.

"I have been tested COVID19 positive. With all your blessings, I'm recovering & will be under treatment for a few days. Requesting everyone to please maintain social distancing, wear a mask while going out and wash hands frequently. Please take care of yourselves & your near one's," MLA Bharath Shetty tweeted.

Not only his fans but many leaders including MLAs and other politicians replied and prayed for his speedy recovery.

Meanwhile, Dakshina Kannada which has been recording many positive cases in recent days also saw three senior health department officials test positive.
Sources said that the District Health Officer, Taluk Health Officer, and pathologist of Wenlock Hospital incharge of COVID lab tested positive. Dakshina Kannada district has recorded one more death increasing the total deaths to 18 of which 16 are considered as COVID deaths by the health department.

The district has recorded a total of 913 positive cases of which 428 cases are active.
