JD (S) govt should abide by CMA, release water: Pon Radhakrishnan

Now, the JD (S)-Congress government should accept this authority and release Cauvery water to TN.

Chennai: Asserting that the Cauvery Water Management Authority will ensure justice to Tamil Nadu, Union Minister of State for Finance and Shipping Pon Radhakrishnan has called upon the JD (S)-Congress combine government in Karnataka to honour the authority and release Cauvery water to TN.

“Now, the JD (S)-Congress government should accept this authority and release Cauvery water to TN. Since the last five years DMK’s ally, the Congress in Karnataka had betrayed TN by working against the interests of the people and adopting an unjust and unreasonable stand. It was distressing that both the Congress and DMK, here, have not uttered a single word demanding water for TN or condemned the belligerent attitude of the then Congress government in Karnataka,” Mr. Radhakrishnan said on Saturday.

Speaking to reporters in Coimbatore the Minister said the Cauvery Water Management Authority was legally binding and that Karnataka government has to abide by it. “The Narendra Modi government has brought to an end decades-old woes, and paved way to uphold Tamil Nadu’s rights on obtaining its due share of Cauvery water,” he said.

While urging both the DMK and Congress to be “more accountable,” he said, in case the Karnataka government declined to release water, then the onus was on the DMK and Congress to coerce them to comply. “Since the last five years the two parties had deceived people on the issue. Atleast now, they should convince Karnataka government to see reason,” Mr. Radhakrishnan added.
