Congress switches to stock-taking mode
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The much-awaited stock taking of the Congress party's performance in the Assembly elections would take place on June 4-5 at the KPCC camp executive to be held at the Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Research Studies here. The Left wave that swept the state saw Congress' strength dwindling to 22 MLAs from 39 MLas in the previous Assembly. However, none of the AICC leaders are attending the two-day camp meeting to appraise the situation.
The KPCC executive meeting which was scheduled on May 23 did not take a detailed evaluation on the poll debacle due to the three senior leaders, former Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, KPCC president V. M. Sudheeran and Opposition Leader Ramesh Chennithala's clever ploy. Much to the disappointment of KPCC leaders, those who lost the election did not get an opportunity to discuss the drubbing they received.
All the 87 Congress candidates are expected get the opportunity to review facts that contributed to their defeat at the two-day meeting. "The first day would review the poll outcome and on Sunday leaders would chalk out a strategy to strengthen the party. If required, the two-day camp executive would appoint an enquiry commission," said a KPCC general secretary.
During the last month's KPCC executive meeting, only the 14 DCC presidents got the chance to report their respective DCC's performance. So the two-day camp executive would witness a detailed reporting by all the 87 candidates.
