EC has not ordered transfer of IG Intelligence: CEO Satyabrata Sahoo

About 256 candidates had filed their nominations.

Chennai: The Election Commission has not ordered the transfer of the IGP (Intelligence) K. N. Satyamurthy but it was DGP (Elections) Ashutosh Shukla who had recommended his transfer, Chief Electoral Officer Satyabrata Sahoo has said.

Responding to a query from reporters here on Thursday, the CEO said the Elections DGP had recommended the transfer of the IGP and the letter has been forwarded to the ECI.

The opposition DMK had urged the Election Commission of India to transfer 10 police officers including DGP T. K. Rajendran, IGP (Intelligence), K.N. Sathyamurthy, IG (Internal security) C. Easwaramoorthy, IG North Zone Nagarajan, IG Central Zone V Varadharaju, IG West Zone K Periaiah, and ADSP intelligence K Rajendran, to ensure free and fair polls for the Lok Sabha elections.

Meanwhile, a total of 137 candidates are in the fray for the by-election to the four Assembly constituencies of Sulur, Aravakurichi, Thiruparankundram and Ottapidaram by-election on May 19 polls. About 256 candidates had filed their nominations.
