Papers filed, Ballari heats up
Ballari: Amid the scorching heat on Tuesday, Congress and BJP candidates filed their nomination papers for the Ballari Lok Sabha seat for which polling will be held on April 23.
Except for Congress MLA J.N. Ganesh, the other five MLAs including 'rebel' MLA B Nagendra, Hosapete MLA BS Anand Singh, ministers P.T. Parameshwar Naik, E Tukaram and Ballari district in-charge minister D.K. Shivakumar accompanied Congress candidate V.S. Ugrappa who took out a rally which began from Kanaka Durgamma temple and ended at the deputy commissioner's office where the nomination was filed.
Shivakumar said Ugrappa will emerge victorious in this by-poll by a record margin which would be more than what he secured in the October 2018 LS bypoll.
Ugrappa had then defeated BJP nominee Ms J Shantha by more than 2.4 lakh votes.
State BJP President B.S. Yeddyurappa and Molakalmur MLA B Sriramulu accompanied BJP candidate Y Devendrappa who filed his papers after taking out a massive rally from Valmiki Circle to the deputy commissioner's office. Mr Yeddyurappa said the Modi wave is much stronger now than it was in 2014 and expressed confidence that the BJP will wrest the Ballari seat in this election.
