Karnataka Assembly elections: Varuna braces for fight of the sons
Mysuru: It's now almost certain that Mr B.Y. Vijayendra, son of former chief minister B.S. Yeddyurappa will contest against Dr Yatindra Siddaramaiah in Varuna Assembly constituency which goes to polls on May 12.
On Monday, Mr Vijayendra was given a rousing welcome atop Chamundi hills-the abode of Goddess Chamundeshwari-the presiding deity of Mysuru, when he arrived from Male Mahadeshwara Hills in Kollegal taluk of Chamarajanagar district.
Attired in a silk shirt and silk panche, Vijayendra had darshan of Goddess Chamundeshwari. Talking to reporters at the hills, he said Varuna may be a new constituency for him but not for his party. "I have come fully prepared to fight against Dr Yatindra Siddaramaiah, son of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah from Varuna, which is presently held by the CM. I will abide by whatever decision our party leaders take".
Later, Vijayendra went to Suttur mutt and met Sri Shivarathri Deshikendra Swamy. He was honoured as per the mutt ritual. In the evening, a meeting of leaders of Varuna constituency was held in which the party cadre vowed their complete support for him.
Vijayendra then went to former minister and noted Dalit leader V Srinivasprasad's house at Jayalaxmipuram and sought his blessings. Mr Prasad said there were over a dozen aspirants for the Varuna ticket and Vijayendra was the best choice. The BJP candidate was competent enough to unseat Dr. Yatindra who is also making his political debut from Varuna, he said, adding, "I will campaign for Vijayendra." The real reason for fielding Vijayendra from Varuna is the non availability of a suitable BJP candidate to take on Siddaramaiah 's son in his home turf, said sources.
