Chennai: Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa on Saturday sought Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s intervention in repatriating 63 Indian fishermen belonging to Tamil Nadu stranded in Saudi Arabia due to non-payment of wages by their employer.
In a letter to Mr Modi, Ms Jayalalithaa said the fishermen working in Jubail in Saudi Arabia on contract with a private company had complained to their relatives back home that the company had not been paying them their share from the fishing catch as per the terms of employment. “Having lost hope of receiving fair remuneration from their employers, these 63 fishermen requested the company to enable their return to India which was rejected. It is reported that their passports are in the custody of the company which is now neither allowing them to work nor return to India,” the Chief Minister said.

Tamimum Ansari met Jayalalithaa in separate meetings at her Poes Garden residence. Sources said all parties would be given at least one seat each. Meanwhile, actor R Sunderarajan joined the AIADMK in the presence of Jayalalithaa.
