BJP to governor: Push Siddaramaiah to abolish ACB
BENGALURU: Leaders of state BJP called on Governor Vajubhai Vala on Saturday with a plea to direct the state government to abolish Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB), and restore all cases to the Lokayukta.
State BJP chief Pralhad Joshi led the delegation and submitted a memorandum that the government’s decision to set up ACB had created more confusion and dealing with cases of corruption, and that the Governor should direct the state government to introduce a legislation to strengthen the institution of Lokayukta.
“We hope the Governor will act upon our complaint. He expressed displeasure over creation of one more agency to deal with corruption cases when the Lokayukta is doing the job,” leader of Opposition in the Assembly, Jagadish Shettar, told reporters.
Mr Joshi said: “We have explained to the Governor that there is no need for two agencies to deal cases of corruption. The Governor has assured us that he will seek explanation from the government on this issue.”
JD(S) padayatra tomorrow
JD(S) leaders joined the chorus of opposition against formation of ACB, and plan to meet Governor Vajubhai Vala on Monday and submit a memorandum. JD(S) patriarch H.D. Deve Gowda, who criticized the government’s decision to set up ACB, told reporters on Saturday: “If you give investigation powers to deputy superintendents of police, they start chasing politicians. This is not done. We will launch a massive agitation. We will walk from JD(S) office to Raj Bhavan and present a memorandum to Governor on Monday.”
