BJP manifesto gets final touches

The manifesto will also unveil special plans to protect and augment water sources for drinking and agriculture.

Chennai: The BJP’s election manifesto, which is getting its final touches, will promise more jobs for the youth by helping entrepreneurs launch major projects in TN. The manifesto will also unveil special plans to protect and augment water sources for drinking and agriculture. Good governance will get priority while freebies will not find place, according to party sources.

They said “several crucial issues” will figure in the manifesto, which will focus on all-round development of all sections of the people and project the saffron party as the most effective alternative to both the DMK and the AIADMK. It will promise solutions, such as skill-development, to the increasing problem of unemployment so as to woo the young voters. Ridding the people of corruption and liquor are among the other promises, sources said.

“The state has not seen any development during the successive regimes of the DMK and the AIADMK. Entrepreneurs are hesitating to start ventures in the state. Unemployment has emerged as a major problem as no major project came up in a long time and it is high time something is done for our youth,” says S. Mohanarajulu, BJP state general secretary.

“Nor has the state seen major projects in power sector, water augmentation or dam construction schemes to supplement the agriculture and drinking water requirements of the people. Both the AIADMK and the DMK share similarities on not weeding out corruption and not introducing total prohibition. Our poll campaign will also focus on these issues also,” he added. Another BJP senior said the party manifesto would promise quality education for all, resolution of the fishermen’s livelihood issue and coastal development besides development of the Colachel port.
