Karnataka: A diary can't fetch votes! BJP looks for poll masala

BJP leaders have filed a complaint with the cyber cell against the Congress party for allegedly fabricating documents.

Bengaluru: The diary episode which had embarrassed top Congress leaders after allegations were made that payoffs were made to party leaders, has definitely helped the BJP put the ruling party on the back foot. But sources said that BJP leaders prefer fighting the Congress by taking up popular public issues than focus too much on the controversial diary-an issue which may die out by the time the polls are due.

Knowing quite well that this issue will not bring the party votes, the BJP has even decided to conduct an internal survey to identify relevant public issues in all 224 Assembly segments so that they can harp on these subjects during the campaign.

Party leaders are aware of the fact that the diary controversy involving Congress MLC Govindaraju cannot bring votes to them but they also know that the ongoing saga will do enough damage to the image of the Congress among the general public. BJP general secretary and party core committee leader C.T. Ravi told Deccan Chronicle that the leak of the diary’s contents in the public domain has done a lot of damage to the ruling Congress.

“But we have decided to take up public issues to fight the Congress government. By raising public issues, we will be in direct touch with the public and can make them aware of the 'non-performance' of the state government when the polls are here,” he explained.

In 2013 as mentioned in the Governor speech, the state government had promised to fill hundred percent backlog posts in all departments, but till now, it has not been able to fill the backlog posts which enable unemployed SC/ST youth to secure government jobs. The BJP is intent on highlighting this failure to fill backlog posts by reaching out to large sections of people, Mr. Ravi said.

Meanwhile, the BJP leaders have filed a complaint with the cyber cell against the Congress party for allegedly fabricating documents to malign its leaders.
