Anbumani Ramadoss first quoted' Mahatma Gandhi
Chennai: US’ Republican presidential nomination seeker Donald Trump and PMK’s chief ministerial candidate Dr Anbumani Ramadoss have one thing in common. Both the leaders misquoted Mahatma Gandhi.
As part of his efforts to rally supporters, Trump wrote on social networking site Instagram, “First they ignore you. Then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win - Mahatma Gandhi.” The quote drew sharp reactions from the US media and social media questioning the authenticity of the quote attributed to Mahatma Gandhi.
Two days before Mr Trump posted the quote, Dr Anbumani invoked the same quote in his party’s rally at Vandalur on February 27 and said his party will storm to power in the elections.
“Last year when I was declared as chief ministerial candidate some people mocked at me. Now I had travelled to all the 32 districts, addressed eight regional conferences and anti liquor protest in 22 districts. PMK is the first party to release draft manifesto for the state assembly polls.
They are opposing us, as they are afraid of us. We will win certainly,” PMK leader thundered in the rally. V. Kalyanam, Mahatma Gandhi’s personal assistant during 1943-48, told DC that he had read many books of Mahatma but never heard of such a quote. “I have had read many books of Mahatma but I never heard of such a quote before. I am hearing from you for the first time,” he said.
However, Dr Anbumani said that he had read the quote in books. “I have read the quote in books,” he told DC.
